AUSTIN — Today, Texas Secretary of State Nandita Berry announced that a record number of 14,025,441 Texans are registered to vote.

“I am pleased to announce that Texas has more registered voters than ever before, and we are working to make sure each voter has the information they need for a smooth, secure and successful election this November,” said Secretary Berry who serves as the state’s chief election officer.

The last day to register in time for the November 4 Election was October 6. The previous highest number of registrations on record was 13,646,226 set in November 2012 before the presidential election.

As a reminder, Early Voting begins Monday, October 20, 2014 and runs through October 31, 2014. During Early Voting, voters may cast a ballot at any polling place in their county of residence.

Registered voters will need to present one of the following approved forms of photo ID when voting in person:

  • Texas Driver License – issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • Texas Personal Identification Card – issued by DPS
  • Texas Concealed Handgun License – issued by DPS
  • United States Military Identification card containing the person’s photograph

  • United States Passport – issued by the U.S. government
  • Election Identification Certificate – issued free by DPS

With the exception of the U.S. citizenship certificate, the photo ID must be current or expired no more than 60 days.

In almost every circumstance, voters who vote by mail will not need photo ID.

Any citizen who does not have an approved ID can apply for a free Election Identification Certificate at a DPS driver license office. In addition to DPS driver licenses offices, EICs are also available at EIC mobile stations. A list of mobile station dates and locations is available at, your official voting resource.
