TIPITAKA AT WORLD BOOK FAIR, FRANKFURT
Thailand Ministry of Commerce and Thai International Airways together with Oce (Thailand), have jointly sponsored the World Tipitaka Project to be unveiled in the Republic of Germany at Frankfurt Bok Fair 2007.
The highlight of the World Tipitaka Project Exibition is focused on "the International Wisdom-based Technology from Thailand" a 40-volume Pali Tipitaka edition in Roman script (2005) and its newly published 40-volume Tipitaka Studies Reference, both of which were published by Dhamma Society for the first time in Bangkok this year.
The exhibition also shows that the international publication standard of the Project is equally matched by the open-standard database of the e-Tipitaka edition. This innovation has created a solid ground of IT technology from which the World Tipitaka Edition can be effectively propagate to the global public.
On October 12, 2007, five members of the Dhamma Society flew from Frankfurt to the Hague, Kingdom of Netherlands, to witness the historic hand-over of the royal gift of Tipitaka to the International Court of Justice at the Peace Palace.
Leading a Tipitaka Delegation from Bangkok was the President of the Supreme Court / President of the Constitutional Court of Thailand who handed-over the 80-volume Pali Tipitaka and its Reference to Her Excellency the President of the International Court of Justice.
Also witnessed and celebrated this historic but simple ceremony were Her Excellency the Ambassador of Thailand and Her Excellency the Ambassador of Sri Lanka as well as representatives of Tipitaka Patrons from Thailand, Sri Lanka, Sweden and the Netherlands.
